The WaterBoss Model 950 not only serves as a softener and a dirt and sediment filter but it also functions as a chlorine filter. Packed into the middle compartment of the WaterBoss unit is a mixed media bed of fine mesh ion exchange resin and high-grade activated carbon.

The Model 950 becomes a chlorine filter through the process of absorption. Activated carbon is a media for improving taste and odors of almost all kinds. Activated carbon is a form of carbon that has been processed to make it extremely porous. Due to its high degree of micro-porosity, just one gram of activated carbon has a surface area in excess of about two tennis courts.

In addition to the positive characteristics as a chlorine filter, activated carbon provides a prime habitat for microorganisms to grow. Because of its absorption, nonpathogenic microorganisms can be a nuisance and actually create bad taste and odor.
